Applied Learning Programme (ALP)
Growing Persevering STEM Innovators
Growing STEM Innovators with Perseverance
At West Grove, we believe every child has the potential to shape the future. Through our Applied Learning Programme (ALP), we nurture STEM Innovators — children who think critically, solve problems creatively, and persevere even when challenges arise. Imagine your child faced with a tricky puzzle or a real-world problem: instead of giving up, they try again, test new ideas, and keep going until they find a solution. That spirit of perseverance is at the heart of our ALP, helping students grow into resilient learners who embrace challenges with confidence and curiosity.
Our ALP Journey
Over six years, our students embark on a hands-on learning journey that blends science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with everyday life. Each stage builds their skills and confidence:
-
P1–P2: Exploring the wonders of nature and caring for the environment.
-
P3–P4: Tackling sustainability challenges like recycling and food security.
-
P5–P6: Innovating solutions for water and energy conservation.
Through these experiences, children learn to apply STEM thinking to real-world issues, preparing them to be problem-solvers of tomorrow.
Success doesn’t come from getting everything right the first time. It comes from trying, learning from mistakes, and trying again. That’s why perseverance is the key learning disposition we cultivate.
Our students learn to:
-
Keep going when solutions don’t come easily.
-
See mistakes as opportunities to improve.
-
Approach challenges with resilience and creativity.
Beyond the Classroom
To stretch their potential, students also develop digital competencies such as coding, computational thinking, and digital collaboration. For those with special interests, our CCAs — Robotics, Infomedia, and Nature Club — provide exciting opportunities to innovate further.
Through our ALP, we hope that our children will not only be knowledgeable in STEM but also resilient in spirit. They will be ready to face the future with perseverance, wisdom, and grace — true innovators who can make a positive difference in the world.
