CyberWellness & Media Literacy

INTRODUCTION:

  • Cyber Wellness (CW) refers to the positive well-being of Internet users. It involves an understanding of online behaviour and awareness of how to protect oneself in cyberspace. The focus of CW is about helping students to become responsible digital learners. When navigating cyberspace, students should demonstrate respect for self and others and practise safe and responsible use. Students should also be a positive peer influence by harnessing technology for collaboration, learning and productivity, as well as advocating positive use of technology for the good of the community.

MISSION:

  • To equip all Westgrovians with life-long social-emotional competencies and sound values so that they can become safe, respectful and responsible users of Information Communications Technology (ICT).

PROGRAMMES:

Students

  1. A Cyber Wellness Booklet has been customized for each level tagged to each Cyber Wellness topic. Students use this booklet as a consolidated resource of their learning and complete their reflections and various activities specific to each level.

  2. Cyber Wellness and New Media Literacies (NML) activities are embedded within Form- Teacher Guidance Periods (FTGP).

  3. During Assembly talks, students are exposed to various CW topics and issues such as Personal Data Protection, Cyber Bullying, and Fake News.

  4. Cyber Wellness Student Ambassadors (CWSAs) is a leadership development program where selected students undergo training and guidance to equip them with the know-how and confidence to role-model, advocate cyber wellness and create a safe and kind online community.

  5. Recess activities such as our “Young Digital Thinker’s Challenge” are supported by our ICT Champions and CWSAs, where students attempt quiz questions regarding various CW topics.

Parents

  1. CW Tips are shared through the school website and various class platforms.

  2. ICT Newsletters, shared termly will include write ups about activities students participate in and also include CW tips for parents.

  3. Parent Workshops are organized yearly on various topics such as Excessive Gaming and Social Media Use ( August 2019)
